{"id":1247,"date":"2017-01-02T13:31:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-02T08:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/?p=1247"},"modified":"2017-01-02T13:31:13","modified_gmt":"2017-01-02T08:01:13","slug":"what-are-transaction-in-ssis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/?p=1247","title":{"rendered":"What are transaction in SSIS?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here we are using Transactions to make sure that if one component fails then the whole logical unit should fail.<\/p>\n<p>On the second day of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnmsbitutorials.net\/training.php\" target=\"_blank\">MSBI training in Mumbai<\/a> here shown are the demonstration steps of Transaction practical in SSIS done by one of the candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Here we want that when our State master component fails the whole logical unit should fail and no records should be updated in the database.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1248\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1248\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"628\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1.jpg 628w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the error snapshot which is shown under Progress tab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1249\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1249\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"401\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2.jpg 401w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But here as we see in the above below image snapshot\u201c Country Master\u201d data is getting loaded in the database even though the \u201cState Master\u201d failed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1250\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1250\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3.jpg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"503\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3.jpg 503w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3-300x250.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 503px) 100vw, 503px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now what we want is that if one component loading gets failed then other component should not get executed in other words they should also fail and do not load any table values if any into the database.<\/p>\n<p>So how we can achieve this?This can be done with the use of Transaction.<\/p>\n<p>Transactions are logical grouping of components. So if one component is successful then the whole transaction is successful or if one component fails then whole transaction fails.<\/p>\n<p>Following are the steps to enable Transaction on SSIS package.<\/p>\n<p>On Control Flow pane go and do right click on the Sequence container and select \u201cEdit\u201d option.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1251\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1251\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4.jpg\" alt=\"4\" width=\"628\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4.jpg 628w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4-300x146.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the Properties, select the \u201cTransaction Option\u201d as <b>\u201cRequired\u201d<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1252\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1252\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"598\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5.jpg 598w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-300x204.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now run the package and check execution result of it. You will see that whole \u201cSequence Container\u201d fails to execute and red color cross mark is seen on the container as shown in the image down below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1253\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1253\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6.jpg\" alt=\"6\" width=\"627\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6.jpg 627w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6-300x143.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now execute a general query on the SQL Server Management Studio and check whether values of Country table is loading or not.<\/p>\n<p>The Country data is not loaded since the State component failed and the whole Transaction failed.<\/p>\n<p>Under below figure \u201cResults\u201d values of the Country table is not getting loaded so great after enabling Transaction in SSIS if one component fails then other component will also fails and whole package will stop.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1254\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1254\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7.jpg\" alt=\"7\" width=\"520\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7.jpg 520w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Candidate practicing at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnmsbitutorials.net\/training.php\" target=\"_blank\">MSBI training<\/a>\u00a0and submitting essential steps write-up required to complete practical not only help himself but also other readers in understanding steps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here we are using Transactions to make sure that if one component fails then the whole logical unit should fail.
