{"id":1256,"date":"2017-01-03T12:59:30","date_gmt":"2017-01-03T07:29:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/?p=1256"},"modified":"2017-01-03T12:59:30","modified_gmt":"2017-01-03T07:29:30","slug":"what-are-checkpoints-in-ssis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/?p=1256","title":{"rendered":"What are checkpoints in SSIS?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This write-up in actual is continuation with the previous one where we had explained \u201ctransaction in SSIS\u201d written by a candidate who attended\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnmsbitutorials.net\/training.php\" target=\"_blank\">MSBI classroom training in Mumbai.<\/a> This write-up will deal with checkpoints used in SSIS.<\/p>\n<h3>Issue:<\/h3>\n<p>Now the concept of Checkpoint is different from Transaction. According to the definition Checkpoint starts from the last failed point whereas in Transaction it is All Fail or All Success. From the below figurethe error shown from the Progress tab which says that \u201cThe system cannot find the file specified\u201d here we are using Checkpoint.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1257\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1257\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1-1.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"664\" height=\"274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1-1.jpg 664w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/1-1-300x124.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here the error occurred because the Checkpoint Usage property is set to \u201cAlways\u201d as shown in the figure down below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1258\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1258\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2-1.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"376\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2-1.jpg 376w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/2-1-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 376px) 100vw, 376px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Solution:<\/h3>\n<p>The solution is very simple; we just have to change the Checkpoint Usage Property. Now there are three types of Checkpoint Usage property \u201cNever, If Exists &amp; Always\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1259\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1259\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3-1.jpg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"627\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3-1.jpg 627w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/3-1-300x90.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever\u201d means the application doesn\u2019t care whether there is a Checkpoint file present in the system or not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Exists\u201d means if the checkpoint file exists in the system then the application will provide all the details of the checkpoint there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlways\u201d means the application sees to it that there should always be a checkpoint file in the system otherwise it will give us the error like the above one.<\/p>\n<p>To solve this error we are selecting the checkpoint usage option as \u201cIf Exists\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1260\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1260\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4-1.jpg\" alt=\"4\" width=\"573\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4-1.jpg 573w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/4-1-300x88.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 573px) 100vw, 573px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1261\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1261\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-1.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"627\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-1.jpg 627w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-1-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And set the path ofthat created empty text \u201ccheckpoint file\u201dname under Properties as shown down below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1262\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1262\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6-1.jpg\" alt=\"6\" width=\"627\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6-1.jpg 627w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/6-1-300x89.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now if we try to run the program it will run smoothly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1263\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1263\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7-1.jpg\" alt=\"7\" width=\"627\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7-1.jpg 627w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7-1-300x136.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here the error is detected at State Master. So now after resolving the error the checkpoint will start from State Master and continue to execute ahead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1264\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1264\" src=\"http:\/\/stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/8.jpg\" alt=\"8\" width=\"605\" height=\"345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/8.jpg 605w, https:\/\/www.stepbystepschools.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/8-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With this practical hope that checkpoint is understood along difference between transaction and checkpoint.
